About Adam David Lichtman, M.D.

Dr. Lichtman is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Chief of General Anesthesiology at the Weill Cornell Medical College where he specializes in the anesthetic care of patients undergoing complex cardiovascular and aortic surgery. Dr. Lichtman is board-certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and holds subspecialty certification in Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Academy of Wilderness Medicine.


Dr. Lichtman is a member of national and state anesthesia societies, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committees on Trauma and Emergency Preparedness, Uniformed Services & Veterans' Affairs, and the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Continuous Quality Improvement.


Dr. Lichtman retired from the United States Navy Medical Corps as a Captain after 23 years of combined Active and Reserve service. Some of his duties included: Director of Surgical Services for Operational Health Support Unit Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Reserve Component Specialty Leader for the Training in Medical Specialties (TMS) program, and senior anesthesiologist for the 4th Medical Battalion United States Marine Corps.


His military training includes the recognition and treatment of chemical and biological warfare casualties, disaster, and undersea medicine. In 2003, he was recalled to active duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom for which he received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal.


His teaching interests include cardiothoracic anesthesiology, trauma, and training medical and military personnel in disaster medicine and weapons of mass destruction.
