About Andrew D. Posner
Andrew D. Posner, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine
specialist at NewYork - Presbyterian / Lower Manhattan Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical
College. Dr. Posner is the Assistant Director of the New York Downtown Center for Sports
Medicine. He provides individualized, compassionate care to active patients of all activity levels,
from young athletes, to middle-aged weekend warriors, to older patients with degenerative
conditions. Dr. Posner specializes in treatment of complex problems of the knee, shoulder, and
elbow. He has extensive experience in sports medicine, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder
instability surgery, shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, meniscus
repair, cartilage restoration, elbow ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (Tommy John
surgery), and other open and arthroscopic musculoskeletal procedures. He is also experienced in
treatment of upper and lower extremity fractures.
Dr. Posner graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University and earned his M.D from the
University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Albany
Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. During residency, he assisted in the care of
athletes at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Siena College. After residency, Dr. Posner
completed a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los
Angeles, CA. He served as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los
Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Galaxy, Anaheim Ducks, Pepperdine University, and multiple
local colleges and high schools. He was also selected to be a team physician for Rugby Football
Club Los Angeles.
Dr. Posner is active in research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book
chapters, and abstracts, and continues to present at national orthopaedic meetings and
conferences. Dr. Posner is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons,
American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North
America
