About Andrew K. Sands, MD
Dr. Sands is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serves on its board of surgical subspecialties. Dr. Sands earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he became interested in structure, function and biomechanics. After earning his medical degree from New York Medical College, he completed a surgical internship at St. Luke's Roosevelt Medical Center and an orthopaedic residency at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Sands subsequently served with the Marines in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. After completing active duty, he received advanced clinical experience in lower extremity trauma and reconstruction in Seattle at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center.
