She completed her Ophthalmology Residency at The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, ranked as the premier Residency training program in the US News and World Report at the time. She then completed her Glaucoma Fellowship at The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, ranked as the premier Ophthalmology Institute in the US News and World Report.Dr. Demetriades enjoys seeing patients in her Clinical Practice with a primary focus on Glaucoma. Her Laboratory Research is also focused on the treatment of Glaucoma and is an extension of her Ph.D. work in Ocular Gene Therapy. Specifically her laboratory develops Neuroprotective Gene Therapies for Glaucoma that have the potential to be used clinically. Genes encoding neuroprotective agents and survival factors are delivered to the eye to improve cell survival and ameliorate vision loss in Glaucoma.Dr. Demetriades’ Research is supported by Research to Prevent Blindness, the New York Community Trust, and she has received funding from the National Institute of Health, the BrightFocus Foundation, the American Glaucoma Society and Fight for Sight.Dr. Demetriades’ Clinical Practice and Laboratory Research have the same underlying goal, which is to improve the quality of patients’ lives by optimizing their Glaucoma care.
