About Carter G. Abel, MD
Dr. Abel is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Columbia University College of Medicine at New York– Presbyterian Hospital.Carter G. Abel, M.D. graduated cum laude from Princeton University. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Abel completed his Dermatology Residency at the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama. He then completed a Mohs’ micrographic surgery and cutaneous laser surgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He is a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and American College of Mohs’ Surgery.Since 1998, Dr. Abel has served as Assistant Editor of Cutis Magazine, the largest circulating dermatologic journal in the world.Dr. Abel specializes in skin cancer surgery and procedural dermatology related to the aging process. He received his dermatologic training in the sunbelt where he treated patients for many of the severe effects of sun damage. As a trained Mohs’ surgeon, he performs an advanced method of skin cancer removal that is tissue-sparing. He performs other techniques to destroy pre-cancerous lesions and to retard the damage caused by the sun.
