Typically, when patients with anal fissure have ongoing pain or bleeding despite medical treatment the next option is to undergo a muscle cutting operation called partial lateral internal sphincterotomy (PLIS). During Dr. Feingold’s operation no muscle is cut and instead the anal fissure is cleaned out (debrided) and cauterized and a steroid (Kenalog) is injected into the fissure. Over 400 patients have undergone this procedure with a high success rate and a low complication rate. Out of town patients who are interested in possibly coming to see Dr. Feingold can call the office for information about making these arrangements.
