About Danielle K Emmet, DO
Dr. Danielle Emmet, DO is a physiatrist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Emmet earned her medical degree at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine where she also completed an additional year-long fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. While in medical school, she conducted clinical research on the association between body awareness, osteopathic manipulative treatment and perceptions of pain, which has since been published.
Dr. Emmet completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Westchester Medical Center and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian-Columbia and Cornell. During residency she pursued advanced training in evaluating and treating pelvic pain and musculoskeletal disorders affecting the pelvic girdle. She also initiated a Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group in partnership with the Hospital for Special Surgery and the American Academy of Lifestyle Medicine to create resident educational opportunities in lifestyle medicine.
Clinically, Dr. Emmet cares for a broad range of people. She has a particular interest in treating musculoskeletal causes of pelvic girdle pain and musculoskeletal conditions affecting pregnant and postpartum women. She is passionate about the important role physiatrists play in treating pelvic pain and addressing the healthcare disparity for these conditions which are often undertreated, can be potentially disabling, and greatly impact a person's quality of life.
She also provides comprehensive rehabilitation for people living with disabilities and people regaining independence following injuries, illness, or medical treatments. She is skilled in spasticity management for people with neurological conditions. She integrates the principles of lifestyle medicine into the longitudinal care of her patients. She acknowledges the unique psychological experiences and needs of patients undergoing rehabilitation, and has advanced training in psychosomatic medicine. Additionally, she is skilled in providing Osteopathic manipulative treatment.
Dr. Emmet is an active member of American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, International Pelvic Pain Society, and American Academy of Osteopathy.
