About Darren Jay Friedman, MD
Dr. Darren J. Friedman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Friedman has expertise in surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow, ankle, sports medicine, and musculoskeletal trauma. Dr. Friedman has obtained a Subspecialty Board Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is an attending surgeon at New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.
Dr. Friedman earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and graduated with Honors while competing on the NCAA Division I men's varsity soccer team. Dr. Friedman earned his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Rutgers Medical School. While in medical school he was awarded the RWJ Summer Research Fellowship for his work in Orthopaedic Surgery. He came to New York City for his training in Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center –University Hospital of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Friedman furthered his training in Boston as a Harvard Shoulder Fellow and at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City as an AO Trauma Fellow. Dr. Friedman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Friedman specializes in treating complex problems of the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle. He has extensive experience in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, arthroscopic nerve decompression, joint preservation, tendon transfers, shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, meniscal repair, all inside ACL reconstruction, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, patella stabilization surgery, and sports medicine.
