About Erin Iannacone, M.D.
Dr. Erin M. Iannacone is an Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center.Dr. Iannacone completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned her degree in Psychobiology with Phi Beta Kappa and Departmental Honors. She then moved to Portland, Oregon, where earned her medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Iannacone subsequently completed her residency in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco – Fresno, before moving east to complete the Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering. She remained at Weill Cornell for the Advanced Cardiovascular and Aortic Surgery Fellowship, under Dr. Leonard Girardi, before being recruited to stay on as faculty. During her years of training she won many awards including the American Medical Student Association Rising Star Award, the Excellence in Medical Student Education Award at UCSF-Fresno, and the Distinguished Housestaff Award in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell.Dr. Iannacone’s interests include all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, with a special focus on aortic aneurysmal disease and cardiovascular disease in women. She is passionate about medical education and the nuances of training from the pre-medical student level to that of advanced fellows. Dr. Iannacone has extensive experience in coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG) including multi-arterial grafting, structural heart disease, disease of the aortic and mitral valves, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, and surgical treatment of aortic disease including root, ascending, arch, and descending aneurysms and dissections.
