About Faisal Shaikh, MD

Faisal Shaikh, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and the Thoracic Surgery Section. He is the director of the newly founded Interventional Pulmonology Program at Columbia. This is a unique division that collaborates with thoracic surgery, pulmonary medicine, oncology and several other subspecialties in clinical care and research. Interventional pulmonology is at the forefront of performing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic thoracic endoscopy. After earning his medical degree at University of Tennessee, Dr. Shaikh completed his medical residency at Weill Cornell, where he developed an interest in pulmonary disease. Thereafter, he completed several advanced fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, followed by interventional fellowship at the Harvard combined Beth Israel Deaconess and Massachusetts General Hospital program.

Dr. Shaikh's clinical work focuses on performing minimally invasive bronchoscopy to provide our patients with effective diagnostic and therapeutic options for lung nodules, lung masses, and lung cancer. He has expertise in palliating benign and malignant airway obstruction as well as performing minimally invasive, single incision thoracoscopy. He has worked in a collaborative effort on developing Columbia's lung volume reduction program in order to provide patients with advanced treatment options in emphysema.
