About Hai Chen, M.D., Ph.D.

Hai Chen, M.D., Ph.D., is a neurophysiologist and epileptologist (seizure specialist) at Weill Cornell Medicine. After earning his MD and PhD and performing ground-breaking research, Dr. Chen completed his internship and residency at UT-Southwestern Medical Center from 2010-2014. He then completed Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy fellowship at NYU from 2014-2016. He joined the faculty in the Neurology Department at George Washington University where he was promoted to Associate Professor of Neurology in 2021. He joined Weill Cornell and New York-Presbyterian in February 2023


Dr. Chen is board certified in Neurology, Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology. His clinical interests include intractable epilepsy, anti-seizure medications, epilepsy surgery, and deep brain electrical stimulation. Dr. Chen provides services for patients with epilepsy in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.


Dr. Chen has been investigating the utilization of electroencephalography (EEG) in detecting seizures. He has also conducted studies on optimizing anti-seizure medications and neuromodulation in epilepsy patient care. His publication record includes multiple papers from his research study in major scientific journals. Dr. Chen has also been the principal-investigator for an anti-seizure medication clinical trials at George Washington University. He has also served on committees at the American Epilepsy Society and as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals. He has been an invited speaker to discuss seizure treatment at the national neurology conference. He is also an advocate for seizure patients and served as a board member of the Epilepsy Foundation, DC Chapter.
