About Haideh Hirmand, MD

Dr. Hirmand has been in private practice since 1999 in New York City and she is Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill-Cornell Medical College. She is a member of the attending staff at The NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Her practice focuses on aesthetic surgery, specializing in eyelid and facial rejuvenation. She has pioneered safe injection techniques for around the eyes. She also has a special interest in secondary breast surgery and body contouring. She continues to conduct clinical research and has published and presented numerous scientific articles. Dr. Hirmand is actively involved with teaching of surgical and injection techniques at the national level. Dr. Hirmand is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, where she is a member of the New Technologies Task Force, Teaching Courses Committee, Leadership Development Committee, and the Chair of the Women’s Aesthetic Surgeons Committee. She was awarded The Certificate of Achievement in Aesthetic Surgery by The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for her clinical research. Dr. Hirmand is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.She graduated valedictorian with a B.S. in molecular biology at the University of California, Davis in 1984 and went into medicine after a year of continued cancer research. She completed her Doctorate in Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 1990 having combined her medical studies with a master’s in public administration, focusing on international health development, at the Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She came to New York in 1990 where she trained at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in surgery from 1990 to 1995. As part of her training, Dr. Hirmand was a surgical research fellow at Cornell Medical College and Rockefeller University and completed her research project as a visiting scholar at Oxford University. She resumed her plastic surgery training at The New York Hospital in 1995. After finishing the specialty training, she pursued sub-specialty fellowship in eyelid and aesthetic surgery in Atlanta at Paces Plastic Surgery/Emory University. She then completed a second craniofacial and aesthetic fellowship at Paris’ Necker Children’s Hospital. Dr. Hirmand donates a significant amount of time to volunteer work in both her community and abroad.  She has been invited to Mexico several times on reconstructive missions as part of the National Health Development Project of the Government of Mexico. She served as a Chairperson of the Health Committee of the National Council of Women and is a board member of the Women’s Medical Association of New York City. Dr. Hirmand has been a member of Physicians for Human Rights and trained as a volunteer physician for the Human Rights Clinic Program of Doctors of the World. Dr. Hirmand is a Vice President of the Executive Committee of Women for Women Plastic Surgery Aid program of the International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS). Spearheaded in 2007, this charitable program addresses the growing issue of women’s health by supplying services by international female surgeons for female patients in developing countries. Philanthropy has been an integral part of Dr. Hirmand’s practice and she continues to work closely with a number philanthropic programs.  Dr. Hirmand’s unique philosophy and approach to aesthetic surgery has been featured in national Beauty and Lifestyle publications including Allure, O, The Oprah Magazine, Town & Country, Marie Claire and Vogue. New York Magazine voted her “the field’s sharpest new talent” in their “Top Cosmetic Doctors” issue. In 2006, Dr. Hirmand was profiled in the “Power Players” issue of Vogue and recognized for her approach and impact on the field of aesthetic surgery. She appeared on ABC News, CBS, and Healthy Balance as a Media Beauty Expert. In November 2009 she joined wowOwow, the online journal created, owned and run for women by women, as a contributor in the field of aesthetic surgery, beauty, and related topics.
