About Howard Israel, D.D.S.
Dr. Howard Israel is an eminent oral and maxillofacial surgery academician and researcher. He was co-principal investigator in an NIH R01 Grant on Osteoarthritis of the Temporomandibular Joint with Dr. A. Ratcliffe of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of Columbia University School of Medicine. This research pioneered the histochemical understanding of temporomandibular joint internal derangements. In addition, Dr. Israel was the Associate Project Director of an NIH Clinical Cancer Education Grant at the School of Dental and Oral Surgery. He established, and is Director, of the Center for Oral, Facial and Head Pain at the Columbia Presbyterian campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 chapters and 14 abstracts, and been a presenter at numerous national and international conferences and symposia. In addition, he co-developed with Dr. Steven Syrop, a member of our voluntary faculty, the E-Z Flex Passive Motion Device for temporomandibular joint rehabilitation.
