About Jessica R. Berman, M.D.
Dr. Jessica R. Berman enjoys caring for patients with a variety of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis, Sjogren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic and seronegative arthritis, and mixed, overlap and undifferentiated cconnective tissue diseases.
She currently serves as Director of the Rheumatology Fellowship Program and is in charge of the ultrasound and injection teaching program for trainees. She regularly supervises direct patient care and teaching with the fellows, medical residents and students.
Dr. Berman co-founded the HSS Academy of Rheumatology Medical Educators with Dr. Stephen Paget in 2011. This aims to establish a stimulating and empowering academic educational environment that enhances the quality of teaching and promotes teaching careers and education research. Through the money raised by the Academy, funding of important education initiatives and programs in the department are made possible.
She received the American College of Rheumatology Clinician Scholar Educator Award from the Rheumatology Research Foundation in 2009, has taken on leadership roles on several Education committees with the American College of Rheumatology and won several teaching awards. Her education research has focused on the assessment of professionalism using an interprofessional OSCE and the development of Academies of Medical Education to foster education scholarship and advance educators' careers.

Dr. Berman also collaborates with the FDNY and NY Department of Health in important research regarding the development of sarcoid and other autoimmune diseases following 911-related exposures. She takes pride in caring for firefighters and other first responders with 911-related autoimmune disease.
