About Karen Blitz-Shabbir, DO
Karen Blitz, DO, is a neurologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn and the director of the M.S. program at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. She specializes in the treatment and management of patients with multiple sclerosis and has a special interest in neurorehabilitation. Dr. Blitz evaluates patients with neurological disorders to develop treatment plans to optimize function and mobility. She recommends early treatment, risk factor modification, and symptom management for patients with neurological conditions, and prescribes proper rehabilitation strategies whenever possible. Her goal is to optimize her patients' health and wellness. Dr. Blitz is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Society of Neurorehabilitation, and the New York State Consortium of M.S. Centers. She has received recognition for her work by the American Medical Women's Association and is a member of the clinical advisory committee for the Long Island Chapter of the National M.S. Society. Dr. Blitz has published her research in medical journals and presented her work at national medical meetings. After graduating from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Blitz served her internship at Winthrop University Hospital. She completed her residency in neurology at Nassau County Medical Center, where she was chief resident in her final year and served her fellowship in neurorehabilitation at the Hospital for Joint Diseases at NYU Medical Center, where she later served as a neurology attending at the M.S. Care Center.
