About Mallay Occhiogrosso, MD

I am a graduate of Weill Cornell Medical College, where I was an award-winning medical student in psychiatry. I did my residency at the Weill Cornell Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital Payne Whitney psychiatric residency program—among the few psychiatric treatment centers in the U.S. that specialize in balancing psychopharmacological and psychological management. My lengthy apprenticeship in applying cutting edge neuroscientific findings alongside modern, evidence-based therapeutic techniques informs every aspect of my current approach. After graduating residency, I was an assistant professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and attending psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian Hospital for seven years. There I worked on the graduate student mental health service; in the Weill Cornell women's program treating peripartum mood disorders, PMS and providing prepregnancy medication consultations; and in the general adult outpatient clinic. I also trained medical students and residents and did grant-winning research on women's mental health. I have been in private practice since 2014 as a member of the Personality Disorders Institute, an international research and clinical training center for TFP (Transference-Focused Psychotherapy), a form of therapy dedicated to treating borderline personality disorder. I lecture and publish internationally in my field and am on the voluntary faculty of Cornell.
