About Mariam El-Ashmawy, MD, PhD

Mariam El-Ashmawy, MD PhD is a medical oncologist and translational scientist with focus on cutaneous oncology and ocular melanoma. She completed her MD and PhD at UT Southwestern, in Dallas, Texas, her hometown. She earned a certificate in clinical investigationduring her Internal Medicine Residency at NYU-Langone & Bellevue Hospitals, and then completed Medical Oncology Fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.


In the laboratory, her work has been dedicated to understanding the complex genomic landscape of cancer and developing novel targeted therapeutic strategies. Her ongoing projects include testing novel RAS pathway inhibitors in preclinical models of gastric and esophageal cancer as well as a first-in-human clinical trials for patients with NRAS mutant melanoma.
