About Mariam El-Ashmawy, MD, PhD

Mariam El-Ashmawy, MD PhD is a medical oncologist and translational scientist with specialization in the treatment of advanced skin cancer and ocular melanoma. Her research investigates the complex genetic landscape of cancer in order to develop new therapies.


In the laboratory, her work has been dedicated to understanding the complex genomic landscape of cancer and developing novel targeted therapeutic strategies. Her ongoing projects include testing novel RAS pathway inhibitors in preclinical models of gastric and esophageal cancer as well as a first-in-human clinical trials for patients with NRAS mutant melanoma.
