About Mia G. Cohen, MD

Dr. Cohen was born and raised in Wisconsin and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Honors and Distinction with a B.A. in Psychology and Zoology.  There she was selected for the Phi Beta Kappa Society.  During her undergraduate education, she participated in research in genetics and addiction and was awarded the Hilldale Undergraduate Research Award and the Family Medicine Summer Research Grant.  She also volunteered at the hospital with medically ill children in the pediatric hospital school.  Dr. Cohen attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health where she was elected class representative and treasurer of the student body. Dr. Cohen went on to complete her residency in general psychiatry at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital where she was selected as Chief Resident. She completed her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital's combined program of Columbia and Cornell Universities, where she was selected as Chief Resident at the Columbia campus. Her research interests include mindfulness in the treatment of substance abuse.  Her review article entitled "Mindfulness in the Treatment of Adolescents with Problem Substance Abuse" was published in the April 2013 edition of Adolescent Psychiatry.
