About Natalya Chernichenko, M.D.

Dr. Chernichenko, MD, FACS, is a Site Chief of Otolaryngology at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. In addition to being a board-certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Chernichenko is a fellowship-trained head and neck surgical oncologist. Her clinical practice focuses on benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck area, including tumors of the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, sinuses, salivary gland, head and neck skin cancer, and melanoma. She aims to provide high-quality, patient-centered advanced surgical care, emphasizing quality of life and functional outcomes.

Head and neck cancer can impact essential human functions, including swallowing, speech, sight, and appearance. While it is her top priority to cure cancer, she is committed to helping patients achieve the best possible quality of life. She works closely with a multidisciplinary team of experts in radiation oncology, medical oncology, reconstructive surgery, pathology, endocrinology, radiology, speech and language pathology, physical therapy, and other disciplines to develop a personalized treatment plan for each patient.

Dr. Chernichenko received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical School in 2005, where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2010, followed by the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During her fellowship, she was a recipient of a prestigious Young Investigator Award from the American Head and Neck Society for her work in understanding the mechanism of perineural invasion of cancer. Upon completing the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Fellowship, she was appointed Chief of Head and Neck Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She is pursuing an MPH in Community Health, which will provide her with tools to develop community-based interventions for the prevention and early diagnosis of head and neck cancers.

Dr. Chernichenko is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Head and Neck Society, the New York Head and Neck Society, and the American Association for Cancer Research. She aims to support her patients through their cancer diagnosis and treatment challenges and help them live a healthy and fulfilling life after cancer treatment.
