About Penelope Chun Lema, MD
Dr. Penelope (Penny) Lema is the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Lema holds dual roles in leading the Emergency Ultrasound Division and as Fellowship Director. Dr. Lema is a nationally recognized leader in Emergency Ultrasound. She was previously the Emergency Ultrasound Director at the University at Buffalo, University of Rochester and NYP - New York Presbyterian Queens. She completed her Emergency Medicine Residency and Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Northshore University Hospital (currently Hofstra Northwell), where she served as Chief Resident. She is the past-Chair of the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Section, past-Treasurer of SCUF and currently serving her fourth elected term on the Board of Directors of NY ACEP. Dr. Lema is not only an ultrasound enthusiast, but she is also a passionate educator, dedicated to inclusion and equity in medicine and resident and faculty professional development.
