About Phillip Calenda, MD
Dr. Calenda completed his Ophthalmology Residency and his Transitional Internship at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Fordham University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa. A Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Calenda is a frequent speaker and interviewee. He educates optometrists on treatment options for dry eye syndrome patients, and the use of antibiotics in the prevention and treatment of ocular infections. Dr. Calenda's interviews have appeared in Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Woman's World Magazines; the New York Post newspaper; , NBC-TV, and websites such as WebMD.com and Drugstore.com. 'Dr. Calenda brings a great deal of skills and experience to the area,' said William Higgins, MD, Vice-President and Regional Executive Medical Director, New York Presbyterian Medical Group. 'But it is his compassion and understanding of patient needs that our patients and families value most.' A skilled cataract surgeon who has taught his techniques to many other area surgeons, Dr. Calenda brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Hudson Valley. He has performed many thousands of cataract surgeries, and utilizes the latest techniques, including femtosecond laser treatment and astigmatism correcting intraocular lenses, to reduce a person's dependence on glasses or contact lenses after cataract surgery. Raised locally, Dr. Calenda and his family reside in Briarcliff Manor.
