About Ramin Asgary, MD, MPH
Dr. Asgary's training and expertise is in Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Tropical Medicine/Travel Health. He has been working with and researching the healthcare of refugees/immigrants and the homeless since 2000, and has developed related training curricula for students and residents.He started working in humanitarian contexts with humanitarian agencies and with Doctors Without Borders in 1997 as field physician, project/medical director, and technical/operational and research advisor in more than a dozen missions in regions including Eurasia/Former Soviet States, Sub-Saharan/East Africa, South/Central America. He has been serving on the Board of Directors, Doctors Without Borders-USA since 2012 and a senior IRB member for International Rescue Committee since 2015. Dr. Asgary is a Governing Councilor for the American Public Health Association and the President-Elect for the Global Health, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Travel Health. He serves as the Associate Editor for the BMC-Medical Education and BMC-International Health and Human Rights.Dr Asgary’s current research includes: Cancer screening and chronic disease management in the homeless (US); Medical Education Research related to disparities and global health curriculum development (US); Task shifting of cervical cancer screening using VIA and mHealth training (Ghana, Ethiopia); Healthcare of refugees and health and human rights; International women's and reproductive health (Madagascar, Ethiopia, Honduras, Kenya); Ethics and Accountability in Humanitarian Assistance
