About Robert Allan, PhD
Robert Allan, PhD is a clinical psychologist with practice specialties in cardiac psychology, stress and anger management, and pain medicine. Robert Allan, PhD is a pioneer in cardiac psychology. He has treated hundreds of cardiac patients in individual psychotherapy and conducted more than 2,500 cardiac support groups. In 1983, cardiologist Stephen Scheidt and Dr. Allan co-founded the Coronary Risk Reduction Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, the first educational and psychotherapy program for cardiac patients at an academic medical center in New York City. Since then, he has provided twice-weekly coronary risk reduction classes on the step-down coronary care unit, educating well over 10,000 patients and their family members.Dr. Allan co-edited “Heart & Mind: the Practice of Cardiac Psychology” with cardiologist Stephen Scheidt, which was published by the American Psychological Association.(APA) in 1996. The second edition was published in 2012, which Dr. Allan co-edited with cardiologist Jeffrey Fisher. Both volumes include contributions by leading researchers and clinicians around the world. Dr. Allan conceived and hosted a 10-hour video series based on the book for APA in 2013. He is also the author of “Getting Control of Your Anger” (McGraw Hill, 2006).
