About Robert C. Carter, MD

Dr. Robert Colin Carter is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics (in Emergency Medicine and Human Nutrition) on the tenure track. Dr. Carter earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Master's in Science from Harvard Medical School. He completed the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics at Harvard, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital, as well as a fellowship in the Scholars in Clinical Science Master's program at Harvard Medical School. After spending a few years as faculty at Harvard, Dr. Carter joined Columbia in 2016 on the CUMC track and was moved to the tenure track in 2019.Dr. Carter is currently Principal Investigator (PI) for an R01 examining the mechanistic importance of epigenetic alterations in imprinted genes in FASDs, as well as the PI of a phase 2 double blind randomized placebo-controlled trial to test effectiveness of high dose prenatal choline supplementation.Dr. Carter is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine and practices as an attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.
