About Saamia Faruqui, M.D.
Dr. Saamia Faruqui is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Gastroenterology at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Faruqui grew up in Louisiana and showed early versatility, graduating with both a Bachelor of Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. As a young scholar of both international studies and biological sciences, she returned to New Orleans and garnered an additional Master's of Science in Pharmacology from Tulane University. She then completed an MD from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Faruqui continued her stepwise mastery through medicine completing her internal medicine residency at Tulane where she graduated with a pathway of distinction in Gastroenterology. She then completed a General Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship and a prestigious additional one-year fellowship in transplant hepatology at New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine in Manhattan. Her dedication and educational achievements are only a few aspects that she provides to the community. She additionally is always willing to spend those extra minutes guiding patients through the complex decision-making that higher-level liver care requires. Dr. Faruqui has an interest in healthcare disparities, increasing access to liver transplants for the underprivileged, and providing equal, world-class care to all patients. Dr. Faruqui remains prolific in the liver community and has authored several peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. She continues these endeavors today. On a personal level, Dr. Faruqui is an avid reader and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She hopes to provide world-class gastroenterology and liver care to the Brooklyn and Manhattan communities.
