About Samir K. Trehan, MD
Dr. Samir K. Trehan is an orthopedic surgeon in the Hand & Upper Extremity Service. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow, including fractures, nerve compression syndromes, ligament and tendon injuries, and congenital anomalies. Dr. Trehan and his team are dedicated to delivering the highest quality care for each individual patient in the most compassionate manner and based upon the best scientific evidence.Dr. Trehan received his undergraduate degree from Harvard. He graduated from medical school at Brown University as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigma Xi honor societies for his academic and research achievements, respectively. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery where he received the Professional Leadership Education Award and Russell F. Warren Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Translational Research. He then completed a fellowship in hand, upper extremity and microvascular surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Finally, he pursued subspecialty training in pediatric hand surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and also visited multiple centers (inter)nationally to gain further expertise in wrist arthroscopy, upper extremity trauma and pediatric hand surgery from world-renowned experts.Dr. Trehan's research interests mirror his clinical interests. He has authored over 35 publications/book chapters, presented over 40 research abstracts at (inter)national meetings, and received numerous research grants and awards. Of note, Dr. Trehan has been the recipient of the prestigious New Investigator Recognition Award from the Orthopedic Research Society, Daniel C. Riordan Award from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and Emmanuel B. Kaplan Award from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He also serves as a reviewer for the following journals: Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Journal of Hand Surgery, Bone & Joint Journal, and HSS Journal.
