About Sean Michael Cullen, M.D., Ph.D.

Sean M. Cullen, MD, PhD is an Instructor in Pediatrics & Pediatric Scientist Development Program Research Fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine, and he practices at NYP Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns.

Dr. Cullen received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Notre Dame. He received his MD from Baylor College of Medicine, where he also received a PhD in Developmental Biology for his research in hematopoietic stem cell biology and epigenetics. He went on to complete his residency training in Pediatrics and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. During fellowship, he was named a March of Dimes Fellow of the Pediatric Scientist Development Program, which has supported his research efforts during both fellowship and his early faculty career.

His research interests revolve around the role played by epigenetics in the inheritance of disease across generations. Specifically, he is interested in the pathophysiological mechanism of inheritance related to disease risk of obesity and metabolic disease. He is also interested in the use of quality improvement initiatives in the NICU to improve patient outcomes and prevent harm.
