About Shayne N Ragbeer, PHD
Shayne Ragbeer, Ph.D. (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a licensed clinical psychologist in the Columbia Psychiatry Faculty Practice Organization. Dr. Ragbeer is committed to clinical practice, education, training, research, and program development that are grounded in cultural humility and a trauma-informed developmental framework. Dr. Ragbeer collaborates in care with children, adolescents, adults, parents/caregivers and families, as well as other significant members of individuals' support systems. Dr. Ragbeer's areas of specialization include working with individuals, families and communities who have been affected by chronic and severe trauma, as well as with adolescents and adults, and their loved ones, whose lives are significantly impacted by their experience of suicidal thoughts and behaviors and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors. Additionally, Dr. Ragbeer works with individuals navigating a wide range of stressors, family and life transitions, relationship goals, and mental health and wellness needs.
Dr. Ragbeer brings training in various therapeutic modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), to her clinical care, supervision, and teaching. Dr. Ragbeer has also been engaged in research assessing the use of IPT for adolescents (IPT-A) with youth affected by traumatic stress.
Simultaneously, Dr. Ragbeer seeks to center individuals' unique needs, values and priorities together with their cultural and community experiences, and to recognize the nuanced interactions among complex social systems, biological considerations, and other multifaceted contexts and circumstances. Dr. Ragbeer has been involved in workgroup initiatives aiming to improve health care quality and access, and to promote affirming care for individuals and communities whose gender, sexual, racialized and/or other intersecting identities and social experiences are disproportionately impacted by systemic oppression and marginalization.
