About Stephanie Chiao, M.D.

Dr. Stephanie Chiao attended University of California at Berkeley, where she graduated magna cum laude with highest honors. Following her undergraduate studies, she received her medical degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. She completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern, where she received awards for excellence as a house officer. After internal medicine residency, she completed general psychiatry residency and addiction psychiatry fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. During her residency training, she was selected as an American Psychiatric Association (APA)/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Minority Health Fellow and conducted research on Asian American patients engaging in psychotherapy.


Dr. Chiao joined the faculty at the Weill Cornell School of Medicine in 2022. Since then, she has been an attending physician on the psychiatric consultation-liaison service, supervising and teaching residents and fellows performing psychiatric evaluations on patients in medical and surgical settings. In addition, she maintains an active faculty practice in addiction psychiatry and psychotherapy. She works with patients with a broad range of life challenges and psychological diagnoses, using a variety of therapeutic modalities. She is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and is currently a candidate in Adult Psychoanalysis at the Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Research.
