About Stephen P. Reis, MD

Dr. Stephen Reis is a board-certified radiologist with specialization in vascular and interventional radiology. He is an assistant professor of radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an assistant attending radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Reis' clinical practice focuses on the minimally invasive treatment of tumors of the kidney, liver, and lung as well as metastatic tumors of the liver and lung, using percutaneous (through the skin) ablation and embolization. He is an expert in all interventional aspects of cancer diagnosis and treatment from percutaneous biopsy to vascular access placement.

In addition to cancer therapy, Dr. Reis brings expertise in the treatment of pelvic pain related to fibroids and pelvic congestion syndrome. He also works in conjunction with urologists in the treatment of male infertility and urinary obstruction. The management of lower extremity venous insufficiency and maintenance of dialysis access rounds out his practice.

Dr Reis is known in the region as an expert in selective venous sampling. He works closely with the physicians at Columbia's Adrenal Center in the diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism.

Dr. Reis completed his medical school training at New York Medical College and his internship at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan. His post-graduate training includes a diagnostic radiology residency at Westchester Medical Center and a vascular-interventional radiology fellowship at the University of Texas—Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He remained on faculty at UT—Southwestern until he was recruited by Columbia University Irving Medical Center for his expertise in cancer care.

He is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology (ACR) where he serves on several national quality-improvement committees including the Expert Panel on Vascular Imaging, which is responsible for writing the ACR appropriateness criteria for medical imaging.
